Mara Safransky is a Portland, OR-based artist working in paint, pastel, and fiber-based sculpture. Strongly influenced by the work of the Abstract Expressionists, she uses color, shape, and movement to engage viewers in a subjective, freely-associative experience.

After growing up in the rural mountains of North Carolina, and earning a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, Mara moved to Los Angeles and began her professional art practice on a large easel in a small studio apartment. Since that time, her work has been shown in New York and Los Angeles, sold by interior design-focused retailers including One Kings Lane and Houzz, and purchased by collectors around the country.

Her current three-dimensional series, Chromascapes, celebrates the interplay of color, light, and form, and juxtaposes the order of traditional origami against the beauty and chaos of spontaneous creation.
